RARE 1904 VULCAN STATUE. MARKED “SOUVENIR OF B’HAM”. ST. LOUIS WORLDS FAIR

CollectingAlabama.com is very proud to offer this original Vulcan statue sold by The Commercial Club of Birmingham in 1904 as a way to help pay for the cost to produce the 50 foot cast iron statue of Vulcan the organization commissioned for the St. Louis World’s Fair. These 9 inch metal statues were sold in Birmingham and at the World’s Fair in St. Louis. Most were sold at the Fair and were marked “LOUISIANA PURCHASE EXPOSITION 1904” and “GREAT ALABAMA VULCAN”.  Very few are found marked “SOUVENIR OF B’HAM” and “ALABAMA’S VULCAN” as our example is.  This is the one sold in Birmingham. These are very hard to find in any condition and the condition of this one is extra fine with no breaks or cracks. The statue is missing its dart which should be in Vulcan’s raised right hand. Great original finish.   PRICE $450 SOLD
